Our work is vitally important to the NHS. We ensure that 8,000 units of blood are collected and made ready for use every day.

We hold 9 days of blood stocks and provide a constant supply to hospitals. Our work also enables 5,500 organ and cornea transplants every year. Alongside this we manage the nation’s Organ Donor Register of nearly 13 million names and the British Bone Marrow Registry.

We retrieve and store other tissues, like skin and bone, ready for use in life-saving and life-improving situations, as well as manufacture and provide plasma products such as clotting factors.
