This American-owned organisation is a leading light in the biopharmaceutical industry; its corporate mission is to advance the care of patients worldwide who suffer from certain life-threatening diseases.
Its careful global expansion and impressive success continues across the business. Consequently, it is now looking to take on a senior Government / Public Affairs professional who will be based out of the their Cambridgeshire office. This is a new role and a new function covering the UK & Ireland and reporting into the Senior Director of Government Affairs based in the company’s EMEA headquarters in Greater London.
Your primary focus will be to work closely with all parts of the UK & Ireland affiliate business to develop relationships with key government stakeholders and promote health policies and legislation that are favourable to the company’s business strategy. Government Affairs is pivotal to this organisation – highly valued, well resourced and patently effective. You will have demonstrable experience of “conversation-starting” at the root of the issue and of shaping policy from the inside out. Such issues might include national and local governmental pricing and procurement policies for biopharmaceuticals across the industry as a whole and within the company’s key therapy areas; testing, diagnosis and treatment policies and general government health policies that impact the business. You’ll also take on and develop a series of key public health and policy initiatives.
You’ll come armed with an expert understanding of how these governmental processes work and have key contacts and relationships at senior levels of government.
The ideal candidate will be a dynamic, business-focused and creative individual with a strong background in healthcare. You’ll be a “high-functioning”, robust and savvy personality who is very complementary to the company’s professional but passionate and relaxed culture. You will be adept at building relationships with key stakeholders and senior management in order to build strong connections with policymakers and personally initiate policy-changing initiatives in line with strategy.

This is a big role, so you’ll need to demonstrate significant strategic ability (an awareness of the “big picture” strategic issues facing the business overall and an ability to deal with ambiguity, uncertainty and complexity), have a customer-focused service mentality towards both internal and external stakeholders and a desire to work collaboratively as well as alone, be results-driven and be able to instil a sense of pace and urgency into the function, show personal qualities that include integrity, accountability, reliability and diligence and have a desire to develop and build enthusiasm and motivation amongst colleagues and cohorts in a cross-functional team.
