Further information

Changing the adoption and fostering system, reforming social work, or delivering free childcare - the Department for Education is committed to improving the lives of children, young people and their parents. Are you the innovative and experienced professional who can help us communicate that vision?

As Strategic Communications Adviser for the Department’s children and families brief, you will be responsible for providing expert advice to Ministers and senior civil servants on how communications can help deliver and explain key reforms to all our audiences. You will also lead teams of press, social media and public relations specialists to develop, deliver and evaluate integrated communications on issues ranging from the adoption and fostering system, reforms to social work, early years education, to childcare. You will be part of a high level team which guides all communications activity by the Department and its delivery partners, a champion of low and no-cost approaches to communications, and a member of the Communications Group’s leadership team.

You'll need extensive experience in delivering communications strategy in a high profile organisation; top-notch communications skills; initiative and a team playing attitude; the personal resilience to deliver high-quality work under pressure and experience of leading individuals and teams. The position would suit individuals with a strong CV in strategic communications; a wealth of hands-on experience in press, social media and public relations disciplines; and a strong understanding of the issues facing children and families - ideally but not essentially, in a government, public sector or not-for-profit context. We're determined to improve the lives of children, young people and their parents. In helping us do that, you'll enjoy an exceptionally high profile opportunity to test your skills, a competitive salary and the opportunity to join the Civil Service pension arrangements, which include a valuable range of benefits.
