Crossrail is an ambitious project to deliver a new railway across London, it is among the most ambitious construction projects our country has seen and is the largest infrastructure project in Europe. Building this new railway will involve constructing 21km of tunnels under London and building eight new stations at key locations. When completed, Crossrail will dramatically cut journey times across the city and reduce congestion on the Tube and National Rail services. Responsible for managing Public Affairs activity, you’ll play a vital role in ensuring the success of the overall Crossrail communications strategy. You’ll support the External Affairs Director in delivering government and political liaison at the national and London level. Managing our programme of engagement with Westminster, Whitehall and City Hall, you’ll make sure a full and effective contact programme is planned and carried out. Monitoring and researching crucial government and political issues as they relate to the project, you’ll prepare briefings, presentations and responses for key individuals and teams. Thanks to your trusted advice, our communications plans will also reflect the needs of public affairs audiences.
Naturally, we’ll expect you to have a relevant track record within a complex organisation. You combine an understanding of the construction and infrastructure sector with a flair for understanding and managing political and government stakeholder relationships. The ability to handle issues, manage policies and maintain a robust contact programme (with associated records) will be keys to your success. With excellent relationship building, communication and negotiation skills, you’ll have demonstrable knowledge and experience of engaging with Westminster, Whitehall and London at all levels. The ability to carry out complex research and develop compelling presentations is essential.
