Capita Resourcing is pleased to be supporting RPA with their search for a Press Officer. The Rural Payments Agency’s work helps the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs to encourage a thriving farming and food sector and strong rural communities.
As an Executive Agency of Defra, RPA is responsible for delivering Common Agricultural Policy payments in England and livestock identification and traceability services in Great Britain. They have just embarked on an exciting journey, launching a Five Year Plan to deliver their vision – one which is shared by their people - to become an effective, successful and trusted organisation and to be the “delivery organisation of choice”. As you’d expect, such a change will attract intense scrutiny from the media, industry and Government. Which is precisely the sort of challenge you relish.
Developing and implementing their media handling strategy, you’ll be the first line of contact for all day-to-day media enquiries and be responsible for owning and driving forward the Agency’s reactive media activity. That includes drafting handling plans, lines to take and press releases, as well as identifying, developing and capitalising on positive media opportunities, relevant media analysis and being responsible for developing and operating a “Forward Look” press and media diary. You will coordinate all relevant media matters with Defra, wider government departments, agencies and stakeholders.
You have demonstrable experience of successfully handling highly-challenging, politically sensitive and fast-paced issues within the press office of a Government Department, Executive Agency or pressurised private sector organisation. You will be able to build strong, effective relationships with stakeholders as well as demonstrate excellent communication and writing skills, including creating clear, concise and persuasive copy.
RPA is at the start of a new and challenging five-year plan, having gone through some very positive change recently. Now is an incredibly exciting time to join the Agency and this is an excellent opportunity for an individual with proven talent to either join the Civil Service or for existing civil servants to progress within a different department.
This position is based in Reading, Berkshire and is easily accessible by road and rail links, from London, the Midlands and surrounding areas.
Closing date: Midnight Sunday 16th September 2012.
