Head of Media and Corporate Communications
Bristol or London
£65,000 per annum + excellent benefits
We’re working hard to protect and improve the environment and make it a better place for people and wildlife, and the need for our work is becoming ever more important.
Managing our national Media, Digital Communications and Creative Communications teams, our new Head of Media and Corporate Communications will develop and deliver national communication strategies to help us achieve our environment goals and help others understand what we do.
You’ll also inspire and encourage communications colleagues from across our business to speak with a consistent voice.
From how we manage major incidents, to how we respond to external coverage of our work, you will work with your colleagues to deliver agreed external messages in a timely, sensitive way.
Our priority is to make sure that our messages are reaching their intended audiences, be they members of the public, government or industry. You’ll advise and guide colleagues at all levels, including members of the Board and senior managers, to be our spokespeople and advocates of our important work.
It will be your job to make sure that we are using communications to encourage people to do the right thing and play their part in creating a better place for people and the environment.
First and foremost, you’re an experienced communications professional: credible and influential, you’ll have built an impressive career managing a high profile media and communications team. As well as strong leadership skills and the ability to deliver results through others, you’ll be able to draw on an in-depth and up-to-the-minute knowledge of print, broadcast and digital media, and have your finger on the pulse of new and emerging channels.
The ability to build excellent working relationships – internally and externally – is a must.
Where are you now? Possibly working in a senior role in the private public or not-for-profit sector. But whatever your current role, it’s important that you’re used to working with third parties, trade bodies and government departments. You’re certainly quick to adapt to changing circumstances.
In return, we offer a competitive package with a range of benefits, as well as the opportunity to make a real impact on our environment.
The Environment Agency operates at the place where environmental change has its greatest impact on people’s lives. We work closely with a wide range of partners to make sure there is enough water for people and wildlife; reduce the risk of flooding; protect and improve air, land and water quality and apply the environmental standards within which industry can operate.
