British Antarctic Survey (BAS) is seeking a highly motivated and experienced PR Professional to become part of its award-winning science Communications Team. The Communications Officer will manage the delivery of existing ‘Communications, Knowledge Exchange and Engagement’ strategies tailored for three high-profile, externally-funded science programmes including:

  1. Subglacial Lake Ellsworth – a consortium of scientific institutions working together to penetrate and sample an ancient Antarctic lake buried beneath 3km of ice www.ellsworth.org.uk
  2. Arctic Research programme -  a £15 million five-year research effort to enhance the UK’s research capabilities in the Arctic www.arctic.ac.uk/programme/
  3. ice2sea – a major EU-funded programme drawing together 26 scientific institutes from across Europe to deliver improved projections for sea-level rise www.ice2sea.eu

The successful candidate should be willing to undertake European travel (particularly to Brussels, but not exclusively) to liaise with partner institutions, EU Policy Makers and Scientific Advisors. Excellent written and spoken skills are essential. Experience of working in a science communications role is desirable, but not essential.
