Communications Manager

Gloucestershire

£30,000 (for 25 hours per week)

Action with Communities in Rural England (ACRE) is a national charity aimed at making a difference to the lives of people in rural communities. From working with central Government one day to partners in the private sector the next, our innovative research and feedback helps to influence local and national debate and to shape policy.

We’re looking to recruit a hands-on, creative communications all-rounder who can make sure excellent communications are at the heart of our work. You will be involved in a diverse range of projects to help raise our profile as a rural community development centre of expertise. You will also be advising members of our Rural Community Action Network (RCAN) and working with them to ensure campaigns are communicated effectively, both nationally and locally. As part of the wider management group, you will be helping to influence our work in a range of areas.

Although this role is a new one, it’s a job for a communications professional with experience of managing or co-ordinating communications in a complex organization. You will have a proven track record of delivering results in a fast-paced environment where giving sound strategic advice or meeting an operational deadline are all in a day’s work. Experience of digital communications, including social media, is needed, as is a good understanding of brand and reputation management. A strong news sense, the ability to generate original ideas and to think on your feet will also be among the skills you use on a daily basis. Then there’s the need to consider the impact of issues and of our work – and potential work – on a diverse range of audiences.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an enthusiastic communications professional to help shape not only the job itself but to play a critical role in the way ACRE communicates and to help shape the future for rural communities.

The post is initially for 25 hours a week for 11 months but we hope this will develop into a permanent role.
