As the UK’s largest tour operator, with a number of key and ground breaking initiatives on the horizon for its brands Thomson, First Choice and Thomson Cruises, it’s an exciting time to be part of the TUI Press Office. We are looking for a Senior Press Officer to join our award winning team.
About the role:
You will be part of the team responsible for developing and implementing brand campaigns for the First Choice and Thomson brands. You will work alongside an industry leading PR agency to execute large scale brand projects as well as come up with proactive in-house press office ideas.
You’ll have your hands full generating positive publicity across TV and print, radio and online to promote Thomson and First Choice’s holidays.
As well as supporting proactive press office communications and projects, you will be handling reactive media enquiries and issues that may arise.
The Senior Press Officer will act as an ambassador for the Thomson, Thomson Cruises and/or First Choice brands and deputises for the PR Manager in their absence with a view to ensuring that all PR projects are progressed and requests from journalists and the PR agency are actioned quickly, efficiently and in an appropriate manner.
You will also be required to be part of an on-call rota dealing with media enquiries out of hours and over the weekend.
Working for a company that takes over 5.5 million customers abroad every year and has over 750 retail shops across the UK, the role will be very challenging and diverse.
We are looking for applicants that are creative, highly motivated and hard-working with experience in a busy Press Office environment, preferably in a senior role.
Furthermore, you will have experience of working with a PR agency to implement campaigns.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to write in a range of different styles for various audiences and media channels are essential for this role. You will be regularly required to write press releases and statements, to fit with the fast moving media agenda or journalist deadlines.
You will also have crisis and issues management experience, being able to confidently handle complaints to minimise negative publicity. As well as the ability to brief senior management on a variety of issues where appropriate.
Working in such a fast paced environment you’ll need to be good at media handling and practised at using your own initiative. We also need applicants to have a good understanding of PR and the media and PR’s role in the marketing mix. As well as being practised in pitching in news stories to the national media to secure coverage. In addition, you will need to have experience using different social media channels to implement or complement PR campaigns.
A good range of media relationships, knowledge of social media tactics, media evaluation and Gorkana are also required for this role. As are proven media contacts, in particular, but not limited to, consumer and travel media.
