The Company

Our client is the world’s leading independent international development organisation that works through volunteers to fight poverty in developing countries by delivering innovative development programmes in 36 countries around the world. They are implementing their strategy, People First, to enable them to reach more poor communities, and fundraising has a crucial role in helping them to deliver it. They’re committed to developing strong corporate partnerships to help continue their work, extend their reach and impact, whilst also providing business benefits to the companies they work with.

The Role

We are currently looking for a talented and policy rich communications professional to act as an interim Head of External Affairs, working with our client for up to six months to help deliver changes in UK policy attitudes that improve the lives of poor communities around the world and to improve their profile here in the UK. We’re looking for individuals who can:

  • Manage a strong and high achieving team
  • Drive forward a new advocacy campaign on women’s empowerment, delivering a wider programme of activities through media and parliament, policy development and public campaigning
  • Take responsibility for the overall strategic direction of the organisation and its contribution to international corporate performance targets, working closely with other colleagues globally to ensure maximisation of their impact
  • Draw on the knowledge and experience of UK based volunteers who have seen development work first hand, as well as experienced colleagues in the countries where they work

Candidate Credentials

The successful applicant will be an experienced communications and development professional with leadership experience and excellent networking skills. You'll have a sound understanding of the media, Parliamentary and international development sectors. You will be skilled at building strong relationships and working collaboratively with a wide range of stakeholders. Excellent political judgement, representational skills, an ability to drive strategic thinking across the department and a passion for inspiring others to take action are also critical.
