Media

  • Responsibility for managing a robust system for incoming media enquiries
  • Being involved in the on call press rota
  • Willingness to work away from the main office and visit some of the 25 UK sites when  required
  • Where appropriate, deal with low level media enquiries, including liaising with the  business
  • Monitoring daily current news agendas
  • Writing website copy for relevant stories
  • Develop relationships with local and trade media, where appropriate
  • Organise site visits for stakeholders including media, politicians, civil servants and investors – including relevant security protocols
  • Accompany film crews and photographers on site and ensure that QinetiQ best represented
  • Responsible for managing the online press office and website
     

Government Relations & Public Affairs

  • Monitor and prepare briefs on key Parliamentary events
  • Update and manage the records of relationships with key stakeholders and QinetiQ public policy, support the dissemination of information on QinetiQ’s government relations
  • Retrieve and disseminate Parliamentary / governmental information as required
  • Support the creation of Government Affairs activity, such as site visits and Parliamentary events, as required
     

General

  • Day-to-day management of suppliers of monitoring, databases, newswires, evaluation, subscriptions and other suppliers
  • Liaising with offices of MPs, media and public affairs agencies
  • Responsible for the management of meetings, hospitality and booking venues and general event management where appropriate
  • Attend meetings where appropriate and produce minutes/action logs

  • A strong interest in news and current affairs and business
  • Basic understanding and interest of the media and its trends
  • Likes working at a pace, unflappable, agile, flexible and able to multitask while prioritising workload
  • Ability to liaise with others taking a judgement about timing, appropriateness and manner
  • Ability to summarise complicated information in a timely and relevant manner to brief colleagues, senior management
  • Good oral and written communications skills
  • Eagerness to learn and develop in the role
  • Confident and able to make independent decisions using best judgement
  • Strong inter-personal skills – friendly, approachable
  • Shows initiative, bringing solutions to problems
