Do you have what it takes to deal with national breaking news stories every day on some of the most talked about policy areas in government? Can you come up with creative, innovative ideas to deliver proactive coverage across national, regional, specialist and consumer media? If you think you have the talent, skills and experience to be part of our team, in one of the busiest press offices in Whitehall, then we want to hear from you.
From Academies and Free Schools to child protection and adoption, you’ll see prominent stories by the Department for Education in national newspapers and in broadcast bulletins on a daily basis. We are raising standards in schools, closing the achievement gap between rich and poor, reforming children’s services and childcare, and getting more children placed faster with good adoptive parents. Your job will be to communicate these fast-paced reforms and demonstrate how the department is creating a world-class education system and improving children’s services.
To become a press officer at the Department for Education you will have excellent communication skills, a formidable news sense, sound judgment, the ability to think on your feet and the confidence to advise ministers and senior civil servants.
We have a number of different vacancies based at our London HQ in Westminster. These are exciting, but varied posts in a fast-moving news environment and you will need to demonstrate a proven track record of working in a busy press/PR role or as a reporter for a busy media organisation.
