My client, a major supplier of healthcare services in the UK and overseas, is looking for talented team to lead its Internal Communications agenda for the business in the UK. The team will comprise a Director, a Head of and a Manager and each will have specific responsibilities for aspects of the internal communications strategy and delivery channels. Internal communications has always been important for the business but there is real impetus to make it a key component of business comms for the future.
The Director of Internal Communications will contribute to the development of the internal communications strategy and offer both strategic thinking and tactical delivery. You will be required to manage complex projects, build effective relationships with stakeholders at all levels, and develop innovative, best-in-class communications activity to deliver the company’s purpose and ambitions. With input from other key stakeholders around the business you will ensure effective, accurate and consistent delivery of internal comms to drive employee understanding in line with the company’s commercial strategies.
The Head of Internal Communications will deputise for Director, as necessary, while also supporting delivery of the overall internal communications strategy and plan. You will oversee the centre of excellence across the market in the UK, ensuring excellent execution across all channels including print, non-print and events. You will ‘own’ one or more strategic communications campaigns and advise function leaders on internal communications and engagement.
The make-up of the team will ensure that all internal communications is in line with the business plan and supports and enhances it as needed. The team will lead development and delivery of complex UK comms campaigns and change comms programmes, involving colleagues from the global internal comms network as required.
Both of these roles will be required to work with key stakeholders to deliver internal comms in support of key group activities including sustainability, new brand standards, employee brand engagement, annual employee surveys and annual results reporting.
A vital part if the role will be ensuring regular, relevant and consistent internal communications are delivered via the most effective channels including face-to-face events, leadership calls, on-line and the development of pertinent collateral. The team will be expected to provide cross-functional internal comms expertise, advice and support that assists and improves employee understanding.
The Director of Internal Comms will operate at the most senior levels of the organisation, using people insight and business knowledge to support informed decision making and providing communications advice and solutions. You will also be responsible for ensuring the use of current best practice internal communications approaches to achieve the desired outcomes. You will be a strategic, lateral and creative thinker with the necessary intellectual skills to analyse and assimilate complex issues and research, recognising opportunities and delivering solutions.
The Head of Internal Communications will have an integral role in managing the team and outputs from the UK business centre. You will support the Director, Internal Comms to lead the thinking and to articulate the forward looking story for the company. You will also optimise the internal communication strategy, using multiple online and offline channels to ensure the story is widely heard and understood at all levels in the organisation. The role will also have overall responsibility for the delivery of the annual and midyear conferences, leadership days, ‘air and share’ meetings, conference calls and other communication and engagement forums as required by the business.
The Head of Internal Comms is a senior position which will be responsible for driving through a complex and multi-dimensional agenda for the whole business and is core to the company’s strategy. The post holder will manage a small team of internal communications professionals with specialisms in online and offline communication channels, engagement and events. You will also manage external agencies and lead large cross-functional teams on a number of specific projects involving people at all levels within the organisation
These are significant roles for the organisation and require experienced practitioners with a proven track record of leading internal communications and employee engagement strategies within a sizeable global blue chip organisation. You must have proven broad and deep experience across multiple online and offline channels of internal communication and engagement, including the design and implementation of intranets and other technology platforms, surveys, etc. Excellent influencing skills with the ability to influence very senior internal and external stakeholders (up to CEO level) are also required.
Strong knowledge and understanding of issues affecting employee motivation and mobilisation is a must as is strong commercial acumen and track record. It would be useful if you had broader commercial experience at a senior level in Marketing, Sales or related functions but this is not essential.
As you will have a significant degree of freedom, confined only to work within the overall business objective, to take decisions on your own budget expenditure within overall AOP and to deliver agreed priorities you must be comfortable with that level of autonomy.
