POSITION TITLE: SENIOR PRESS OFFICER
REPORTING TO: HEAD OF MEDIA & PR

Purpose of role
As Senior Press Officer you will provide global media and PR coverage across all business areas: FDI, major events, business and leisure tourism, and higher education. This coverage should effectively champion London's excellence as a world-class destination to visit, conduct business and study. Your work will also help to build London & Partners’ reputation in the media as an innovative, insightful and desirable strategic and commercial partner.

You will work closely with our Media & PR, Consumer Marketing, Audience Insight and Brand teams, the GLA and other stakeholders to maximise media outreach, producing proactive and reactive press communications and developing and maintaining a strong network of media contacts. You will help to deliver an integrated and effective strategy for generating international media coverage and will work on a variety of projects as the business requires.

Key tasks

  • Create and distribute high quality, high impact press release and presentations for relevant media
  • Assist the Media & PR Managers with content sourcing and media outreach work e.g. organising and conducting interviews with key spokespeople / journalists
  • Develop and maintain relationships with key journalists and broadcasters and manage our network of media contacts
  • Manage day-to-day press office functions including press line and email queries
  • Create and distribute regular internal updates newsletters for national and international media
  • Provide press support for internal and external events, projects and launches, ensuring that all parties e.g. media companies have all relevant articles / documents
  • Manage press trips as and when required
  • Monitor, evaluate and report on media coverage
  • Deliver swift and effective crisis management communications (issuing statements, briefings and acting as a credible spokesperson for London & Partners)
  • Provide professional and strategic media and PR advice and support to teams and stakeholders
  • Provide suggestions for feature ideas and itineraries for incoming media
  • Feed new ideas into London & Partners’ Media & PR strategy
  • Deputise for the Media & PR Managers when unavailable
  • Manage relevant budgets, delivering good value for money and identifying benefits in kind
  • Undertake other reasonable duties as allocated by the line manager

Person Specification

The successful candidate will demonstrate:-

Knowledge and Experience

  • Relevant degree or professional qualification preferred
  • Relevant and extensive experience of working in a busy press office environment, preferably within international business
  • Experience of successfully running commercial PR campaigns desirable
  • Previous experience of acting as a spokesperson for the organisation
  • Experience of building effective relationships at all levels and managing a complex set of relationships
  • Experience of supporting and advising colleagues in media & PR matters
  • Understanding of the London media & PR landscape
