PRESS OFFICERS – HOME OFFICE
If you have the resilience, passion and news judgement to operate at the heart of government, dealing with the highest profile issues in one of Whitehall’s busiest press offices, the Home Office may be the place for you. We deal with front page news stories nearly every day, working closely with Ministers to communicate our work to cut crime, reduce immigration and prevent terrorism - policies which never fail to resonate with the public.
No two days will ever be the same and you will be stretched and professionally challenged by working for one of the most respected communications teams in government. Your day could see you organising a Home Secretary press event, briefing a journalist on the day’s major news story or working with marketing colleagues to provide media support for the latest campaign to tackle violence against women and girls.
We are looking for experienced and politically-aware candidates with a proven record of working in a fast-paced news or press office environment. They must be able to spot a good story and translate it into concise, engaging copy for a variety of audiences. The successful candidate will be capable of thinking on their feet, used to working to tight deadlines and able to use their personal authority to influence at all levels. A thorough understanding of media channels, excellent relationship-building and networking skills and a willingness on occasion to work outside core office hours will also be important.
