Sport England’s primary outcome is to get more people doing more sport and to deliver a lasting sporting legacy from the 2012 Games. We are looking for an experienced press officer to join the media team and help deliver an effective and integrated communications programme.
You will help deliver Sport England’s public relations and media strategy to secure positive coverage and position Sport England as the voice of community sport, a centre of excellence and a key driver of the grassroots legacy.
This will include finding and developing news stories and case studies, monitoring news coverage, responding to media enquiries, drafting articles and web copy, writing briefing notes for senior colleagues and building relationships with key journalists.
You will be an excellent media handler with a strong nose for a good story, superb written and oral communication skills and a broad range of media contacts across national, regional and consumer media. You will have proven ability to secure media stories across a wide range of print, broadcast and digital media as well as a detailed understanding of their demands. You will have experience of working within a politically sensitive environment and have a proven track record of persuading and influencing internal and external stakeholders. You will have experience of issues and crisis handling and strong analytical skills to simplify complex material and develop a narrative that is compelling for a non-specialist audience.
