Alongside the Communications Manager, the Senior Communications Executive is responsible for developing, implementing and delivering the IAM’s overall communications strategy and objectives, ensuring that all opportunities are utilised and exploited as much as possible. The role is also responsible for devising and delivering the communication plan to the IAM’s key internal stakeholders, achieving high levels of consistency and accuracy in understanding.
- Assist in developing and delivering the media strategy.
- Produce effective, consistent and integrated communications for a diverse range of target audiences; this will include writing press releases, member correspondence as required, and website content, ensuring IAM websites accurately reflect current external press activity.
- Support senior management on business communications strategies.
- Develop and implement sound communication strategies, with the emphasis on external press and public relations, ensuring that the PR systems used are accurate and effective in delivering timely activities.
- Lead on the development and delivery of a portfolio of communications plans, planning and project managing overall communication strategies for individual campaigns or policy/ research outputs (this may include organising events and other non-desk based activity from time to time).
- Act as the main point of contact for media and implement a proactive and reactive media strategy on behalf of the IAM and specifically IAM Policy/Research team, by producing press releases and editorial, organising and conducting media interviews where agreed and evaluating the effectiveness of activities for continuous improvement and measurement.
- Establish and build good working relationships with identified key media contacts, representing the IAM to senior external influencers in a credible and professional manner.
- Evaluate and report progress on campaigns.
- Write speeches for senior managers and trustees, ensuring appropriate style and that content is ‘on message’.
- Support the Communications Manager as required with other marketing & communications activities where required such as exhibitions, events, shows and other public facing events.
- Managing the IAM’s internal communications programme, specifically:
- Employee communications (with HR), especially the development and exploitation of the organisation’s intranet as a means of controlled reference and guidance for staff; and
- E-newsletters and other communications for key internal stakeholders such as IAM Group volunteers and members
- Contribute to developing new staff
- Deputise in the absence of the communications manager
- Participate on the press office team media rota to ensure accessibility at all times (especially out of normal office hours) to the media.
- There is a requirement to maintain a high degree of pro-activity through actively “selling in” stories to relevant media.
