Head of Comms and Engagment
Bedfordshire Police is responsible for a lively, culturally diverse area that includes Luton Airport and a number of major road networks. Punching well above our weight without losing our close-knit, family feel, we’re committed to fighting crime and protecting the public.
A further outline of the role is found below.
We need a highly creative person to transform our approach to media, communications and engagement across the force. Coordinating communications on behalf of the Chief Constable and the Police and Crime Commissioner, your role will involve reviewing our current activities to ensure the public is at the heart of our communications and engagement strategy.
You’ll take responsibility for developing an effective, agile, and flexible approach to communications and engagement which is tailored to meet the diverse needs of our communities, partners, and our workforce. Through maximising the use of social media, and new channels as they become available, you’ll develop innovative solutions that will enable our communications team to drive our ambition of improving victim satisfaction and increasing public confidence.
Ensuring we continually adapt to the dynamic demands of a fast-paced policing environment, you’ll lead the restructure of our internal and external communications teams into one department to deliver a fully-integrated service.
What you’ll need:
We’re far more interested in finding the right person for this key role than in formal qualifications, and as such you’ll bring with you an impressive track record in PR, marketing, or communications.
Joining an organisation in a period of transition, your ability to lead, inspire, and drive change in a large, diverse organisation will be complemented by demonstrating outstanding people skills and a high level of political sensitivity. You’ll need broad experience and knowledge of commissioning activities such as advertising and market research, which you’ll be able to apply to a policing environment.
