Media Manager - local council

A London council are looking for a Media Manager to join their friendly team. The council deal with a range of issues including planning, property, environmental factors and adult health and social care, meaning that this role be extremely varied. This position will involve both reactive and proactive media outreach, alongside helping to form creative and innovative campaigns. The council are looking to increase their creativity and are really looking for someone who can think of new, exciting ways to speak to the media – for example filming, interviews with high profile individuals and much more of a social media outreach too. This role will also involve a lot of content – so someone who enjoys writing is key!

Key responsibilities of the Media Manager will include:

  • Managing the press office and making sure that all reactive enquiries are dealt with
  • Forming creative proactive media strategies
  • Forming a strong, strategic network of media professionals , both in journalism and in business  
  • Acting as spokesperson for the organisation in press interviews
  • Researching and writing press releases
  • Helping with any crisis communications

The ideal candidate should possess:

  • Experience working in a large communications company, in another council or local government environment
  • A good understanding of PR and public affairs
  • Exceptional written and verbal skills
  • Previous experience with creative campaigns and/or social media
  • An interest in local issues
