What does a PR Account Executive do?

A PR Account Executive in a PR agency is often an entry-level position, with many recruits being either graduates in a communications or media discipline, or journalists and those in marketing looking to change career. A PR Account Executive covers much of the day-to-day work on four to five accounts, including liaising with key journalists and other media professionals, as well as drafting press releases.

Responsibilities of a PR Account Executive

Draft press releases
Build relationships with journalists
Monitor and evaluate the success of a campaign and collect press cuttings
Provide materials for press conferences and client meetings

Key Attributes of a PR Account Executive

A degree is an advantage but not essential, although many agencies offer places through a graduate training scheme
An understanding of the media - this can be either through work experience placements or experience as a journalist in a media setting
Good written and verbal communication skills
Excellent networking skills and a confident manner
A creative thinker
