Are you looking for a new high profile communications challenge?

We are looking for a Senior Communications Officer to develop and implement a creative and innovative channel strategy for our Children, Schools and Families Directorate.

You will be educated to degree level or equivalent and will be a confident, experienced communications professional with good networking skills and ability to communicate effectively with colleagues, at all levels, and with service users. As a more senior member of the team, you will need to mentor and work co-operatively with colleagues to lead or direct relevant communications activities, supporting and contributing to the development of the directorate communications team as a whole. You will need excellent organisational skills for ensuring deadlines are met and targets achieved. Considerable initiative and a proactive approach are required.

You will be expected to keep up to date with technological advances and developments in best practice, particularly around e-communications. Similarly you will need a good understanding of internal communications and the wider marketing mix.

Willingness to develop an understanding of Surrey and its communities, and those that the directorate serves, is key in being able to develop and implement an effective channel strategy. An interest in local government and an understanding of the pressures faced by local authorities is important.

You will be based at County Hall in Kingston-upon-Thames. The role may also involve working from other offices. There may be some evening and weekend working. The ability to be discreet and maintain confidentiality is essential. Please note that this is a politically restricted post.

Surrey County Council is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and vulnerable adults and expects all staff and volunteers to share this commitment.

We want to be an inclusive and diverse employer of first choice, reflecting the community we serve and particularly welcome applications from all under represented groups.
