In order to support the transition towards the new single Scottish Police service the Chief Constable of Police Scotland would like to source interest for the following interim post.

This post will sit on the Chief Constable’s Leadership team alongside the four Deputy Chief Constables and the seven Assistant Chief Constables.  It will be located at Tulliallan, the interim Force Headquarters in the first instance however this may be subject to change.

This will be an interim appointment in the first instance as support staff structures have as yet to be fully developed.  It is anticipated that over the next 6-9 months formal support staff structure proposals will flow on from extensive internal consultation with staff and the Trade Unions to the Police Scotland Executive team and then the Scottish Police Authority for final approval.

Thereafter, permanent Director level appointments to the Force Leadership team will be made.  It is envisaged that the permanent posts will be advertised internally and externally concurrently.

This successful applicant will play a lead role in taking forward critical work required to progress and deliver police service reform over the next 6-9 months – from a functional as well as from a Force Executive perspective.  You will be forward looking, strategic thinker with strong inter-personal skills.  Excellent communication and negotiating skills are essential.

You’ll be a leader and motivator, with the ability to see ‘the big picture’, persuasive and articulate with evidence of your ability to lead and manage strategic change.

You’ll have a sound knowledge of, and ability to employ, a broad range of communications tools and processes e.g. website, intranet, advertising, media releases, publications, house journals, briefings, sponsorship, events etc and be able to exercise sound and speedy judgment in a crisis leading to effective decision making.
