The university think-tank million+ is seeking a highly motivated Head of Public Affairs who wants to help ensure that the life-changing opportunities that all universities provide is valued in parliament, by governments and in the media. With political nous and the ability to reach out to new stakeholders this is an opportunity to bring fresh thinking, new ideas and your public affairs expertise to raise our profile and that of our affiliates. Your role
You will be responsible for devising and delivering a dynamic and comprehensive public affairs strategy to promote million+ research and policies, influence policy-makers and key opinion-formers  at the highest level across a wide-range of issues including higher education and research funding, health and teacher education  and the wider contribution of universities and graduates to society and the economy.

In liaison with the Chief Executive you will maintain relationships with universities, current and potential affiliates, external stakeholders, government, parliamentarians and political parties and identify new opportunities for engagement and sponsorship.  You will manage the budget and the public affairs programme, supervise the Press and Communications officer and ensure that external and internal communications align with million+ policies and values.

Skills you’ll need
Strong communication, analytical and influencing skills will be crucial for this role.  With well-rounded advocacy, organisational and facilitation skills and an entrepreneurial approach, you will have had experience of deploying these skills to deliver effective public affairs strategies, parliamentary liaison and successful stakeholder engagement.

With an excellent knowledge of public policy and good practice in financial planning and project management you will be expected to deliver the public affairs programme to time and on budget.

You will have the ability to work effectively with senior leaders, manage staff and the flexibility to contribute to the success of a small team.

Knowledge of higher education and experience of working with member-based organisations are desirable but a passion for promoting the outstanding opportunities that all universities provide is essential.
