Appointment of Director of External Relations

The University of Aberdeen, founded in 1495, is the fifth oldest University in the UK and has a distinguished history of outstanding achievement in teaching, research and external engagement. Well integrated into the City of Aberdeen, it is situated on two main campuses, with the ancient King’s College containing a number of historical buildings.

The University values its distinguished heritage, but is also rooted firmly in the realities of twenty-first century life. The University seeks to enhance its reputation as one of the world’s leading Universities by ensuring students have an intellectual and social experience second to none; developing ever more ground-breaking research and capitalising upon its dual role as an outstanding international institution which is a cornerstone of regional economic and cultural life. In all its activities, the University seeks opportunities to work in collaboration and partnership with like-minded Universities and other organisations, locally, nationally and globally.

The University is seeking to appoint an inspiring and innovative Director of External Relations, to lead the development and delivery of the University’s marketing, communications and public engagement strategies. Leading a high performing team, the Director will ensure that the financial, operational and staffing resources of the departments are deployed to maximum effect while raising the profile of the University through traditional and innovative methods. The successful candidate will have significant senior level marketing, communication and/or public engagement experience gained in complex organisations; possess a compelling vision for how a University with Aberdeen’s profile can position itself in a changing market; and be committed to the values and strategic intent of a research-led University.

The deadline for application is midday on Monday 2nd December 2013. For further details, including the job description, person specification and information on how to apply, please visit and quote reference 1373.
