Marketing Communications Executive (Home Based) - Marcomms Agency
£20,000 - £25,000

You’re hired. Now go home.

We’re looking for a marketing communications professional to work from home on a full time basis. Salary £20,000 - £25,000 per year.

We are a marketing communications company with a difference. Several differences, in fact.

One of them is that we don’t have an office. All the team work from their homes.

So when we use phrases such as ‘self starter’, ‘self motivated’ and ‘self disciplined’ to describe the person we are looking for, they are not just buzz words.

You won’t be working on your own. We are linked by a phone and computer system which means, for example, that if you ring us up you would never know that the person who answers the phone is 30 miles from the person that the call gets put through to.

You’ll be part of a team, with plenty of interaction. But you will be working from – wherever you are. There will be nobody sitting looking over your shoulder.

So apart from the ‘self starting’ capability, what else are we looking for?  Well, whoever gets this job will have some of the following (the more of them, the better):

> At least a year’s experience in a marketing communications role either in-house or in an agency – or a similar amount of experience working as a journalist.

> A degree in a relevant subject. That could be relevant to our business (English, maybe, or PR) or relevant to our clients’ businesses (so something linked to engineering, technology, construction or the environment would be good – we do a lot of work in those areas).

> An ability to write clear, compelling, copy for a wide range of outlets (press releases, websites, brochures, newsletters, blogs and more). Although sometimes you might be writing txt spk you will more often be expected to write ‘good English’ – correctly spelled, phrased and punctuated.

> A car – and a driving licence.

> Membership of CIM, CIPR or similar or be working towards membership on an approved programme of study.

We do like to get together face-to-face sometimes, either as a whole team or in smaller groups working on particular projects. So although in theory you could live anywhere in the world you will need to get to Peterborough (which is where most of us live and work) at least once per week on average. Sometimes more, sometimes less.

And you will need a home environment which is conducive to work. Sharing the dining room table isn’t going to let you work at your best – and we expect nothing less than the best.

A good broadband connection is essential.

What else can we tell you? Well …

> The salary is between £20,000 and £25,000 per year. If you want to come in towards the top of the scale you will need to convince us that you’re worth it.

> Getting to Peterborough once per week (on average) will be at your own expense. All other reasonable travel and other expenses we’ll pay for.

> We’ll pay your CIM or CIPR subscription if you are a member and we’ll pay for training towards membership if you’re not.

> Early starts and late finishes are sometimes necessary to meet client demands but usually the hours of work are 09:00 to 17:30 Monday to Thursday and 09:00 to 17:00 on Friday with an hour for lunch each day. But there is a degree of flexibility – so if you need to take an hour or two out during a working day that’s usually fine if you then make it up again later in the week in an evening, weekend or early morning. We will expect you to keep a time sheet to record your working hours.

> There’s currently no pension but changing legislation means we shall shortly introduce one.

> You will get four weeks holiday per year (some of which must be taken between Christmas and New Year) – plus bank holidays, of course. Stick with us for five years and the holiday entitlement goes up to five weeks.

> We will provide you with a computer, printer, VOIP telephone and whatever else you might reasonably need to work from home.

> You will have fun. You will be doing interesting work for interesting clients – and you’ll never have time to get bored.

Interested? Send us your CV with a covering note explaining why you’re the right person for this job.

We want to hear from you no later than 15 May 2014 and we will then do interviews during the second half of that month.
