Are you the creative, disciplined and strategic leader Essex Police needs to run its internal communications team at a time of unprecedented change?

This is a job like no other. You’ll lead a team responsible for multi-channel communications to a force of 5,000 officers and staff working 24/7 across the county of Essex. Your communications approaches will need to factor in shift working, the demands of officers meaning traditional channel approaches won’t give you the engagement you need, and the huge variety of roles within and news coming out of the force.

You’ll advise senior officers on communications approaches, run multi-channel internal campaigns which drive employee engagement and promote best practice and good news, and make sure colleagues hear about our news first.

With the nature of crime in the county changing, new technology giving officers more time to fight crime and major organisational transformation happening across the force, this is a role which will challenge and develop your skills.

You will be an established internal communications leader or an utter star looking for the next challenge. You’ll have a professional internal communications qualification or relevant experience. You’ll be able to get the best out of your team by coaching and inspiring as well as managing workflow and performance. And you’ll be a credible and persuasive leader within your organisation, giving others supreme confidence in your grasp of the strategic and the tactical.

Although police experience is desirable, it’s your grasp of the changing context of internal communications, your personal resilience and your leadership through major change in big organisations we’re looking for.

Within easy commuting distance of London, this role is based at force headquarters in Chelmsford but you’ll need to work flexibly around the county for a force that never stops, including some weekend and evening work.
