This is a unique opportunity for someone who wants to help transform Barking and Dagenham, working closely with the Council Leader, Chief Executive and senior leadership team.

You will have a genuine interest in making a difference to the lives of our residents, a strong public sector ethos with a drive and enthusiasm to deliver our ambitious agenda.

You will have the support of a reinvigorated corporate core, and an enlarged communications and campaigns function. We see this as key in our ability to transform the Council and Borough.

We have a far-reaching growth agenda, promoting the Borough as London’s growth opportunity. The Head of Communications role is key to fulfilling this ambition.

Just as important however will be your ability to lead teams creating behavioural change to improve outcomes for our residents.

Experienced in working with senior stakeholders, the ability to translate strategic vision into impactful communications will be key as we seek to deliver a step-change in our campaigning activity. We see communications as key to delivering better outcomes and reducing demand for services through behavioural change.

Success in this high profile role will require you to be highly self-motivated, proactive and a well-rounded communicator. You will have the drive and ambition to lead an expanding communications service that promotes is seeking a step-change in community engagement and resident satisfaction.

About the role

A unique opportunity for an exceptional communications expert to mould and deliver all communication. You will lead the development of our communications strategy, strengthening our relationships with the media, a range of significant stakeholders across the council as well as our residents. Developing a range of campaigns improving resident satisfaction as well as reducing demand through behavioural change will also be key to the role.

The ideal person will bring a strong vision, and effective strategic qualities, able to lead key stakeholder partnerships, and focussed on delivering tangible results. In turn, the council will provide the post-holder with the high levels of autonomy and support as well as the opportunity to work with a transformational leadership team and highly active corporate core.
