NHS Digital is the national information and technology provider for the health and care system.

Our team of 2,700 information analysis, technology and project management experts create, deliver and manage the crucial digital systems, services, products and standards upon which health and care professionals depend, working in partnership with both national and local organisations.

Our vision is to harness the power of information and technology to provide better health and care.

About the Role

As Director of Communications you will develop and implement our communications strategy, working closely with our Chair, Chief Executive and relevant committees to proactively maintain a positive reputation for NHS Digital.

This is an outstanding opportunity for a senior Communications leader to join a new and growing organisation and build public trust in how personal information is managed by NHS Digital during a time when its reputation is under continued public and parliamentary scrutiny.

You will lead our integrated communications team of c.50 professionals managing all communications functions including media and campaigns, publishing, web, public affairs and stakeholders, events, internal communications and projects.

About You

A senior Communications professional, you will have demonstrable experience of leading and motivating a diverse team in either the public, private or voluntary sector.

Whatever your background you will be confident in handling complex communications activity within a political environment and will have a sound understanding of public policy.

A skilled influencer and negotiator, you will be able to engage effectively with a range of stakeholders both internally and externally.

This role will allow you to put your professional expertise and skills to good use, leading a professional communications team to build NHS Digital’s external reputation.

About the Rewards

In addition to a competitive salary you can look forward to a full range of public sector benefits, including an excellent contributory pension scheme, generous holiday entitlement and various flexible working options.

Perhaps the most compelling reasons for joining us, however, are the scale, scope and high profile nature of the projects you’ll be working on, and the opportunity for personal and professional development.
