The National Osteoporosis Society (NOS) is the only UK wide charity committed to ending the pain and suffering caused by osteoporosis and broken bones – and we are changing apace.

Reporting to the Head of Communications, this interim role leads the development, implementation and evaluation of the charity’s communication and media activities. You could find yourself at Buckingham Palace liaising with the BBC press office about the Christmas Strictly Come Dancing special making sure key messages about bone health are included or writing a press release about the latest advancements in osteoporosis identification for the Nursing Times.

You might be planning a major public awareness campaign with colleagues in the Communications team or ordering some new information leaflets to be designed and printed. You’ll certainly be making sure that our various magazines and e-newsletters have crisp engaging content and maximising that content across all our channels.

The role is based in the charity’s offices, Camerton, near Bath.

Helpline service

A team of eight nurses is on hand every weekday between 9am and 5pm to answer medical queries relating to osteoporosis. They can be contacted by phone, email or post and also welcome enquiries from healthcare professionals.

Information

Information is often the first thing people would like to access when they are first diagnosed with osteoporosis. Our website provides an excellent source of information and advice on all aspects of the fragile bone disease.

The charity also produces a range of booklets which are free to download from our website or order from our online shop.

Local support groups 

The charity has a UK wide network of around 100 support groups which meet on a regular basis to offer support to sufferers of osteoporosis 

Influencing governments 

A key part of the charity's work is to encourage UK governments and health services to resource and deliver appropriate services to prevent and treat broken bones. 

Research 

In order to increase understanding of the disease and improve treatment options and patient care, the National Osteoporosis Society invests strongly in research into osteoporosis. The charity’s research grants programme has helped to fund a variety of projects.
