A leading membership association representing the consumer sector is recruiting a Media Relations Manager.  Recognised for its powerful campaigning and influence within Government, the organisation works on behalf of its members to protect and enhance the reputation of the consumer industry, secure the policy and legislative frameworks and the economic conditions in which the sector can thrive and improve understanding of the industry's contribution to the UK economy. 

Working on a set of key political and campaigning objectives across Brexit, skills, plastics and waste, business rates, nutrition, and crime, this Media Relations Manager will play a key role in leading the organisation’s press office work. Reporting to the Corporate Affairs Director, this is a very busy frontline media handling role. You will be dealing with broadcast media bids on a very regular basis and with tier one journalists daily. You will be the first point of contact for journalists and ensure timely response and rebuttal to enquiries and breaking news stories.

As the London based in-house Media Relations Manager you will:

• Proactively manage the organisation’s journalist relations programme, ensuring strong, positive relationships with the media. You will be responsible for media training the spokespeople and preparing them for interviews.
• Generate high-quality, original content for other channels, including digital and social media.
• Act as an adviser to other members of the corporate affairs team, helping them to develop their campaign plans and ensuring that they include creative media relations ideas.
• Take responsibility for media monitoring and providing a quality press office service to the rest of the organisation.
• You will develop productive and trusted working relationships with press office teams of the organisation’s member companies.
• Manage the day-to-day media relations activities

As the London based in-house Media Relations Manager you will have:

• Proven substantial experience of working in a fast moving press office
• A reliably ‘can-do’ individual with a passion for news and current affairs, agile and willing to make news happen
• A strong, creative writer with a strong grasp of English style and grammar and an ability to flex that style for different audiences
• Resilient, calm and unflappable in dealing with tough conversations with journalists
• An organised, efficient co-ordinator of multiple activities and tasks, with the ability to remain calm and professional under pressure
• Able to demonstrate strong analytical skills in order to formulate and deliver considered and persuasive arguments
• A trusted and pro-active team player, supporting team colleagues in driving a culture of constant improvement
• Confident and capable of using own judgement to make things happen
