Job description

The main funding for the BBC, with all its programmes and services, is the Licence Fee.

The Licence Fee system is run under the trademark TV Licensing and comprises a consortium of companies.

The Licence Fee Unit is responsible for the running of the licence fee system which funds the BBC’s considerable output in radio, television and online. It directs a consortium of companies, which make up TV Licensing, to provide all aspects of the work required for the smooth running of the system. In the last financial year the Licence Fee Unit was responsible for the collection of £3.7 billion.

TV Licensing’s public relations are provided in-house, with support from regional agencies.

This role is part of a team which manages all TV Licensing’s PR, including social media and TV Licensing’s digital strategy.

This opportunity is to be part of a team tasked with devising and implementing public relations –reactive, proactive, digital media relations and an extensive social inclusion programme - to enhance and protect the reputation of TV Licensing and, in turn, the wider BBC.

This role will focus on developing engaging digital content and the delivery of TV Licensing’s digital strategy, driving the strategy forward while ensuring quality in terms of speed, tone and deftness.

The ideal candidate will bring - 

  • Substantial digital PR experience, with specific experience of having developed, executed and evaluated social media campaigns across web, Twitter and YouTube
  • Good knowledge of principles of SEO
  • Excellent interpersonal/communications skills and good writer/editor
  • Ability to get a message across in a variety of styles/tools/techniques
  • Ability to drive creativity and innovation
  • Attention to detail while never losing sight of the bigger picture
  • Strong project management and organisational skills
  • Good experience in proactive and reactive media relations including media/issues/crisis management and media evaluation
  • Experience of national and regional public relations
  • Experience of being a broadcast spokesperson
  • Ability to work well under pressure and juggle the varying demands of different projects
  • Experience of using Sysomos, Radian6 or other social media monitoring and evaluation tools
  • Experience of stakeholder communications and successful message delivery to hard to reach groups
  • Experience of working within broadcast sector and third sector
  • Experience of having worked in an in-house PR environment
  • Experience of the public sector
  • Understanding of strategic importance of TVL, its role within the BBC and the broadcasting industry
