Press Officer – In-house – Consumer Issues – London - £33-40,000 plus full benefits
This is a truly exciting opportunity for someone with experience of dealing with weighty issues in the national consumer press. My client is a significant trade association responsible for promoting the collective interests of its global consumer big-brand food and drink members across the national, local and trade press on matters ranging from sugar consumption and healthy diet to packaging and the environment.
My client is seeking an experienced Press Officer who will be the first port of call for journalists covering stories affecting their industry, whether it’s market trends or health and environment related issues.
This position reports to the Director General and is based in London. A significant part of the role is reactive media relations based around issues affecting the food and drink sector and highlighted never as before in the national press.
Key elements of the role include:
- Responsibility for handling trade, local and national media inquiries on all issues affecting the sector
- Building positive relationships with journalists covering the sector, from specialist correspondents to general news reporters
- Working with member companies to develop positive media stories and key messages on industry issues
- Preparing briefings and press statements for all media on industry issues and information
- Media monitoring and delivery of daily news summary to members
- Pro-active placement of feature articles and opinion pieces in support of policy positions
- Working with policy, public affairs and marketing colleagues to deliver a co-ordinated communications plan to stakeholders and support events.
The Ideal Candidate will have:
- A minimum 3-4 years’ experience gained either in an agency role or an in-house press office
- Experience of weighty, news-worthy issues driven communications
- Experience of working with the national, local and trade media across press, broadcast and digital
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
- Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines where required
- Able to work on own initiative and as part of a team.
Package
My client offers a most competitive salary between £33,000 and £40,000 depending on experience, plus a full range of benefits.
