Job Ref: 19876

We’re looking for a dynamic, creative communications professional to lead the development and delivery of first class campaigns and communications activity on departmental issues surrounding Britain’s exit from the European Union. Could you be what we’re looking for? Have you got strong experience of leading campaigns, both paid-for and no-cost, and working closely with stakeholders to deliver real-life policy outcomes?

Could you help us to influence public opinion and behaviour by shaping innovative, imaginative content to reach our audiences? Can you talk to people from all walks of life, from legal professionals, to judges, to prison officers? Are you able to critically assess insight to find out what people really think and feel so that you develop communications in response to this? If this sounds like a role you could fill, then read on.

The job is based in the Ministry of Justice’s External Communications team (part of Communication and Information Directorate). Arising as a result of Britain’s decision to leave the EU, this is a newly created role.

The job purpose is to lead on the development and implementation of high quality communications strategies, campaigns and activity that engages external audiences, including the legal sector, informing and involving them in our plans to exit the EU.

You and the Band B (SIO) in your team will provide professional advice and guidance on how to effectively reach and engage with external audiences. This is a critical role, working directly to the Deputy Head of Strategic Communications, and managing one Band B (SIO).

Your role will involve working with policy and communications colleagues, Ministers, private offices and Special Advisors to define communications objectives, understand audiences, create content for external channels and evaluate the impact and success of communications activity. All campaigns led by the team follow the OASIS strategic approach (Objectives, Audience Insight, Strategy/Ideas, Implementation, Scoring/Evaluation).

BACKGROUND TO THE MINISTRY OF JUSTICE

The principal role of the Ministry of Justice (MoJ) is to uphold the rule of law, the cornerstone of the British way of life. It delivers services that are some of the most fundamental in a democratic society. In doing so it has responsibility for a number of the key elements of the justice system, including prisons, courts, tribunals, legal services, youth justice and the probation service.

The Ministry of Justice supports the Secretary of State and Lord Chancellor, the Rt. Hon David Gauke MP and his Ministerial team to deliver the government’s programme. Our work spans criminal, civil, family and administrative justice, together with responsibility for making new law and safeguarding human rights.  The Ministry works in partnership with other government departments and agencies to serve the public, improve the justice system and support victims of crime.

The department and its network of five delivery Executive Agencies employ around 65,000 people. The largest Agency is Her Majesty’s Prisons and Probation Services (HMPPS), covering prisons and probation. Her Majesty’s Courts and Tribunals (HMCTS), the Legal Aid Agency (LAA), the Office of the Public Guardian (OPG) and the Criminal Injuries and Compensation Authority (CICA) are also in our network. In addition, the MoJ is responsible for over 30 Arm’s Length Bodies (ALBs).
