Sky’s Consumer Comms team sits within Sky’s Corporate Affairs division and will work closely with delivery teams within Entertainment/Product PR & Sky Sports/Sky News/Sky Cinema PR teams

The Head of Social Media will report to the Deputy Director of Consumer Comms, and will have a small team of direct reports. The role will work alongside another Head of Social media overseeing and contributing to the setting of ambitious social media strategies; creative processes; and evaluation of the work.

Key aspects of the role

  • Overseeing end to end delivery of Social Media campaigns in support of Sky’s entertainment shows and TV and communication products and services (Sky Q, Sky Mobile, VR, Sky VIP, which is Sky’s loyalty scheme)
  • Working with stakeholders across Sky to identify the role for earned / organic Social Media as part of broader marketing and PR campaigns. Influencing stakeholders at all levels about the opportunities and challenges for social.
  • Shaping effective social influencer strategies working alongside a soon to be recruited Influencer Manager who will deliver influencer campaigns.
  • Sharing regular insights about the world of social media with the broader department and stakeholders across Sky.
  • Provide rigorous filters and stress-testing for campaign ideas generated either in house or externally from initial briefs to creative execution ensuring ideas will have impact in social.

Person Specification

  • Someone at the top of their game, with exceptional understanding of Social Media – with an emphasis on the value organic Social Media can deliver a brand.
  • They will have expertise in the creation and delivery of exceptional social campaigns that drive organic reach and engagement to complement Sky’s PR and paid Social strategies. To have a single-minded and skilful grasp of what makes something sharable in social
  • Excellent strategic planning skills with the ability to communicate that with conviction to a broad range of stakeholders – from marketing teams, product managers, and media agencies.  
  • Experience taking risks and how that can deliver positively for a brand 
  • Willingness to bring fresh thinking
  • An inclusive leader, easy to work with, and trusted for their honest relationships

Essential skills & experience:

  • Senior level experience either in house or agency
  • Significant experience delivering publicity-generating campaigns that have landed at scale with measurable results using a mix of social and PR
  • Track record of integrating marketing, PR and social teams and tactics to deliver against shared objectives.
  • Setting clear vision and direction, thinking long-term and planning effectively 
  • Working with broad range of social / evaluation tools to deliver campaigns and analyse their impact – from listening tools to content-planning
  • Inputting on broader strategic thinking – has an understanding of the needs of other parts of the business
