The Role:


To help establish Business in the Community as the leading voice of responsible business by maintaining and building on Business in the Community’s profile in the media and developing relationships with key external stakeholders. This role is focused on Business in the Community’s People and Workplace campaigns, working on race, gender and age equality issues in the workplace as well as health and wellbeing and employment.

The role will support the delivery of a media strategy to increase visibility of the charity, and the issues we address with our members, to key external stakeholders.

The Media and External Affairs Manager will take responsibility for leading and delivering media and external affairs activity for Business in the Community’s People and Workplace campaigns. 


Experience and skills:

 

  • Minimum 3 years’ B2B experience in a media-focused communications role, either in-house or agency
  • Proven track record designing and executing successful public relations campaigns at both a national and local level
  • Proven proactivity and ability to use own initiative. Reliable, quick to spot stories and opportunities and react to them, lots of energy and enthusiasm and great attention to detail
  • Experience in turning technical copy into compelling and newsworthy content
  • Understanding of and experience in the use of all primary social media platforms
  • Inter-personal skills for developing relationships with media and other external stakeholder representatives, handling difficult situations and advising people within the organisation
  • Strong relationships with national and industry media outlets
  • Excellent writing and editing skills and the ability to write compelling copy are a must.
  • Experience in working on workplace and employment issues desirable but not essential
  • Public affairs experience desirable but not essential
  • Knowledge of or an interest in corporate social responsibility
  • The role will involve close collaboration with colleagues in the wider Communications team.
