Working as a PR Officer at M&S

We’re looking for a talented Press Officer to help us tell M&S’ transformation story and to help deliver exciting campaigns and provide first-class media handling. With 32 million customers, thousands of products and over 1,400 stores worldwide, we’ll present you with a new challenge every day.

As we’re evolving into a digital-first retailer, we need you to have the skills to manage emerging issues. From announcing major IT projects and the appointments of high-profile Executive Board members, to launching new clothing ranges and the all-important Christmas trading results – the work is fast-paced, but fun and rewarding.

About the role

It will be your job to:

• Anticipate and handle issues that arise within our business and industry

• Identify positive stories and potential campaigns across key areas of the business

• Project manage and deliver key communications projects

• Support the delivery of major corporate announcements, including business and financial calendar events (e.g. Preliminary Results, AGM).

About you

Your CV will show:

• Experience of working in Corporate/Brand PR, under pressure and to tight deadlines

• Crisis management experience, with a calm and measured approach

• A creative thinker with strong understanding of the retail industry and the M&S transformation

• Excellent ability to write concisely and with impact across a range of channels – including press releases, blogs and social media

• Great at fostering internal relationships with senior management and external relationships (i.e. evidence of good connections with a wide range of journalists)

• Discretion and the ability to deal with highly confidential information

• A team player and problem solver with a “can do” attitude.
