Media Manager – The Role

Use your skills and experience as a senior news professional within the media team at WWF UK and play an important role in ensuring our core issues are on the political agenda as well as in building a supporter base motivated to deliver real change.

We are recognised as the world’s leading conservation body and as the Media Manager you will focus on proactively generating positive and agenda-setting news coverage of our work in advocacy, campaigns and fundraising across UK national TV, print and online. Your work will help make our message the loudest, most respected and reliable in the UK media, and build awareness within the public and decision makers’ minds so they too join the fight to safeguard UK wildlife.

Day-to-day you will bring your knowledge and demonstrable engagement in current affairs, UK wildlife conservation and environment issues to work collaboratively with campaigns, policy, content and other comms colleagues to source high impact content and stories to help secure media coverage, handle incoming media enquiries and identify opportunities to land our key messages. You will write press releases and pitches as well as seek opportunities for our key spokespeople to comment on relevant breaking news opportunities on UK nature. You’ll be confident and experienced in advising senior colleagues on media. You may also be asked to accompany journalists in the UK and abroad to report on WWF’s work.  Important too, will be the ability to monitor and evaluate media activities as well as provide stakeholder reporting on effectiveness.

Media Manager – Requirements

You must have demonstrable experience of managing media in a fast-moving press office or news room and the ability to spot and seize an opportunity to tell a news story. You will be an excellent writer, who can cut through technical information and translate science into compelling stories for a wide range of audiences.

A self-starter, you will excel at building relationships and are confident advising senior management about media risks and opportunities. Naturally you will possess a wealth of influential contacts and strong connections with journalists.

You will also have a strong understanding of the UK media landscape and excellent knowledge of current affairs, UK wildlife conservation and environment issues. You will be comfortable managing deadlines and rapidly changing priorities too.

Critically you will have a demonstrable record of delivering successful outcomes across news.

Who are we?

WWF believes in a future where people and nature thrive.

Best known as the world’s leading conservation body, we’ve seen first-hand how wildlife, the environment and human activity are all interlinked.

That’s why our passion for safeguarding the natural world has to be backed up by other environmental action – tackling the global threat of climate change (through our big global campaigns like Earth Hour) and helping people to change the way they live to ease pressure on natural resources.

WWF is at the heart of global activities in all these areas. We have teams of highly skilled professionals working with governments, businesses and communities here in the UK and around the world.
