This new role of Head of Innovation, Policy and Research is crucial for the Campaign to End Loneliness to deliver the outcomes in our Vision for Change, most importantly through ensuring organisations and people are galvanised by the Campaign’s thought-leadership, innovation and knowledge on loneliness.

The Campaign to End Loneliness believe that people of all ages need connections that matter. There are nine million lonely people in the UK and four million of them are older people. Many older people find constant loneliness hardest to overcome. They lack the friendship and support we all need.

The Campaign have been experts in the field of loneliness and connection since 2011. We share research, evidence and knowledge with thousands of other organisations to drive positive change in older people’s lives.  The Campaign is now in an exciting second phase of its development having been awarded a major Big Lottery Fund award (£2.65m) for the period 2017-2020. This will see us drive innovation and share evidence; catalyse new action from a range of people and organisations and inspire people to Be More Us, as part of our public campaigning.

You will ensure the organisation is at the cutting edge of thinking on loneliness by using different approaches, such as action-research, participatory research and co-design, in our research, policy and learning programme.  Alongside ensuring knowledge of loneliness amongst key stakeholders is furthered through all our communications channels and through our specific Learning Programme, you will also take responsibility for leading the Research and Policy function of the Campaign including repositioning our Research and Policy Hub internally and externally.

The successful candidate will have a proven track record in achievement in delivering a research, policy, learning or innovation programme. You will have a strong understanding of different research techniques, including action research, participatory research and co-design, with experience of applying them to develop improved research, policy, campaigns or service outputs.

Experience of developing brand new projects and scaling up the delivery of large projects and managing highly complex projects is important; with track record of running concurrent projects within a programme is also key.

A superb relationship builder, you will have experience of inspiring external stakeholders to adopt different ways of working or thinking and using different techniques to explore issues such as loneliness. A strong people manager, you will have a track record of working to empower colleagues to apply different ways of working or techniques to developing research and policy recommendations, through implementing processes and building team confidence in using them.
