The Role

An exciting opportunity for an experienced public relations officer to join The Royal British Legion’s national media team has become available.

You will help run PR operations for one of the UK’s largest charities, working on some of the biggest national campaigns including the Poppy Appeal, as well as during the wider Remembrance period. The work of the PR team extends year round including delivering creative campaigns to tell the stories of people we help, driving awareness of our political campaigning activity, managing relationships with our high profile supporters, and engaging media at national commemorative events.

You will be able to engage with senior journalists, draw up exciting and creative media plans, and communicate complex ideas to a range of audiences. You will also be able to effectively plan, organise and manage events. You will be capable of managing a heavy workload with flexibility and have a positive approach to problem solving.

The successful candidate will have a relevant degree or equivalent work experience, and will have experience of media relations, public relations or journalism within a high-profile national organisation. You will have experience in developing and delivering PR plans and campaigns, and will have worked with journalists at the national or regional level in securing significant media coverage.

In return we offer excellent career progression including in-house and industry training, the opportunity to create and manage PR campaigns from start to finish and coaching from senior members of the department.

The Legion is the nation’s largest Armed Forces charity providing support and advice to all those currently serving in the British Armed Forces, veterans and their families. As the national custodian of Remembrance the Legion also holds a lead role in the nation’s commemorative activity.
