An exciting pivotal role, within my clients’ casual dining restaurant business is up for grabs; The Senior Communications Manager position will encompass and be responsible for ALL consumer, trade and corporate communications.  My client is a global restaurant brand with a huge presence in the UK and Ireland, who rightfully wants this new hire to be at the top of their game to deliver and be responsible for proactively managing brand reputation and driving positive coverage and buzz through PR and social, to achieve key brand and commercial goals / KPI’s!!  

A busy marketplace demands visibility, therefore this hire will also be responsible for managing agencies, media, bloggers and influencers and love to shout about the brand and customer experiences!  You will be a collaborative worker, liaising with stakeholders to ensure this brand is front of mind for consumers in the UK and Ireland, with it remaining as the nations favourite restaurant chain and specialist food brand. The customer experience is the upmost of importance and something the senior team are extremely passionate about! 

Accountability and responsibilities;

Consumer PR

  • Proactively build this brand as the specialist food experts in their field; the go-to brand on commentary about anything food (their specialist food) and hospitality related.
  • Oversee the development and delivery of campaigns that build a robust narrative in support of my clients core brand pillars and differentiate my client as an iconic brand and market leader as part of a coordinated plan, working across the Marketing team to ensure plans are integrated.
  • Over-see the creation and execution of successful PR-able content ideas that extend across owned and earned channels to drive talk-ability around key calendar events.

Corporate PR

  • Management of all crisis and issues that arise / ensuring senior management are familiar with protocol and media trained as and when necessary
  • Managing the reputation and visibility of senior management – spotting profiling opportunities within the business press
  • Input and insight into CSR for the business and brand – working with stakeholders 

Local / Regional PR

  • Generating positive coverage and WOM for new restaurant openings (+/- 20 pa) and new transformation restaurants (+/- 50 pa)
  • Working as part of cross functional team to support local marketing efforts aligned to agreed business and brand KPIs.
  • Provide guidance to third party agencies to ensure plans and ways of working are aligned to national PR strategies and plans.
  • Generating awareness of the brand specific school programme

Trade PR

  • Proactively building my clients; reputation as the specialist food experts in their space, as innovators in hospitality and as the go-to brand for commentary about anything related / innovation related among trade media.

3rdParty Relationships

  • Manage relationships with 3rdparty agencies, ensuring maximum value from their agency support

Social

  • Define the clients’ social media strategy, providing tools, guidance and direction which empower brand communications
  • Plan and lead the social media news channels for the brand with content and activity planning and posting across relevant Social channels as well as analysing and reporting on performance with day to day moderation, escalation and management of interactions across all social platforms. 
  • Monitor social media noise and react appropriately  
  • Manage a Social Media Executive in the planning and execution of social content

Internal PR

  • Working collaboratively with the internal communications team to engage the business in PR activity and actively seeking out potential PR stories from within

Press Office

 

  • Managing a well organised press office function including press clippings (ensuring coverage is communicated through the business), media lists and image library

Team

  • Manage team workflow and reallocate/prioritise work where necessary to fit capabilities of the team and ensure high standards are maintained
  • Support the team in the day-to-day management and optimisation of PR and Social, from concept to deployment, ensuring the team delivers excellent performance across all projects and initiatives, tied to performance goals/ business objectives
  • Manage the development of the Comms team, overseeing a mentoring, coaching, development and training programme to constantly improve team skills and capabilities – with the objective of being ‘best in class’ Comms function and ensuring strong succession planning

Budget

  • Managing Comms budget across PR and Social budget ensuring investment focused on delivering best outcome for the business.

This role will suit a candidate that has experience in-house, agency or mix of both; you will need to have proven experience and be confident in all of the above disciplines as this role is part of the senior management team, though a very hands on role, with a lean team. You will come from a consumer facing industry which may be hospitality, leisure, retail, FMCG etc. The role requires a high level of cross functional collaboration and influencing, calm under pressure and robust commercial and creative thinking.
