Telling Brent’s story and improving lives

Brent is a tremendously vibrant London borough where the iconic arch of Wembley Stadium dominates the skyline. Spanning both inner and outer London, it is a borough of huge contrasts in terms of its economic, environmental, ethnic and social make up. Brent’s diversity is evident to all who visit and our long history of ethnic and cultural diversity has created a place that is truly unique and valued by those who live and work here.

The council is pursuing a far-reaching transformation agenda that better meets the needs of our community and the Mayor of London has also named us London Borough of Culture 2020 – so it is an exciting time to join us.

The Post

As Communications Account Manager, you will lead on the delivery of part of our integrated corporate communications strategy. You will be responsible for a defined portfolio area, proactively managing all aspects of the planning and implementation of cross-cutting, audience-led communications plans which have the council’s vision, values and ethos at their core.

You will be the lead point of contact for all communications requirements within your portfolio area, building excellent working relationships with colleagues and providing senior councillors and officers with communications support and advice to enhance the council’s reputation.

This is a rare opportunity to join a high performing team at an exciting time in Brent’s history as we build up to become the London Borough of Culture 2020. The role requires someone with a high degree of personal responsibility and you will be encouraged to come up with
your own creative ideas and bring them to life.

In return, we offer a competitive salary working in a fantastic location, local government pension, training and development opportunities, paid CIPR membership, and a chance to really make your mark and develop your career.

The Person

To be successful in this role, you will have experience of delivering results in a fast-paced communications environment with a proven track record of building relationships with, and gaining the trust of, senior managers and councillors.

You thrive on developing and delivering creative communications campaigns, based on hard evidence, which help improve local people’s lives.

Your knowledge of integrated marketing communications means you are experienced in creating great communications using a mixture of traditional and digital communication methods – including social media and short videos.

You will be experienced in identifying and tackling reputational threats while pouncing on opportunities to generate positive headlines and ‘selling in’ proactive news stories to national, regional and trade press.

If you are keen to work at the heart of an ambitious and forward looking council, dealing with high profile issues and making a positive difference every day, Brent’s communications team could be the place for you.
