Summary

The National Trust doesn’t just look after historic houses – our work is varied and complex with more visitors than ever visiting our places. This means that the role of our internal communications team is critical to our success developing and delivering engaging and inspiring communications for our internal teams across our England, Wales and Northern Ireland.

We’ve been improving our internal communications and we are looking for a new Head of internal Communications to carry on this work. We want someone who is as passionate about great internal communications as we are about looking after our places.

What it's like to work here

We’re bigger than you think! We’re more complicated than we appear, and we’re larger scale than you’d imagine. We’ve got passionate people in all of our teams, and we’ve got so much more we want to achieve. We’re for ever, for everyone and we want everyone to feel welcome, so we need to reach new audiences in ways that are meaningful to them.

What you'll be doing

As the Head of Internal Communications you will play an important role, working with our senior leadership team to understand their priorities and advise them on strategies and tactics. You’ll be adept at quickly building networks and understanding large, complex organisations and the people working in them – we need someone who will have a real understanding of what makes us tick.

You'll help us to better understand the needs of our different audiences across the Trust, ensuring that our teams have a voice. You will also ensure that we get the basics right with our core channels delivering timely and appropriate information to help them to do their jobs and understand wider organisational priorities.

You’ll be managing a team of internal comms specialists and you’ll have professional leadership of a small network of internal communicators working in our regions. As part of the Corporate Communications team you will work closely with the Head of External Communications to ensure our internal and external messaging is aligned and consistent.

Who we're looking for

We really need you to be an experienced internal communications professional, you’ll be able to demonstrate:

•Experience at a senior level in internal comms in a complex organisation

•Improving and developing the internal comms function

•Strong management and leadership skills

•Influencing and networking skills at all levels

•Creativity and innovation

•Track record of delivering internal comms with impact

•Understanding different audiences across a diverse organisation
