As a Press Officer at AECOM you will be responsible for delivering our Media Relations strategy across EMEA. The post holder will also be responsible for promoting and protecting the AECOM brand with media stakeholders and audiences. The ideal candidate will be highly skilled at absorbing information, spotting news angles, extracting knowledge from subject experts and creating must-read stories for a range of audiences. The ability to transform technical material produced by specialists into compelling content is essential.

Working as part of the EMEA communications and marketing team, the key responsibilities will be to effectively: 

  • Work across several business lines to support AECOM’s business, promoting our marketing campaigns and securing positive coverage in appropriate media outlets;
  • Respond to press enquiries, sometimes responding to very tight deadlines, ensuring that the appropriate response is provided from across the business;
  • Work with the community of media relations experts across EMEA to implement appropriate strategies that support the growth ambitions of our business;
  • Develop relationships with key journalist to ensure AECOM’s perspective is sought actively by media contacts;
  • Draft and distribute press releases/opinion pieces, seeking views from across a large multi discipline organisation.
  • Work with the Head of External Relations to design and implement crisis media relations strategies;
  • Produce weekly media coverage reports for key internal stakeholders;
  • Promote the profile of AECOM and the profiles of the leadership team across Social Media.

 You will be expected to raise AECOM’s profile amongst EMEA clients through the media, work with the Head of External Relations to arrange events; for example roundtables and thought leadership events, aimed at promoting AECOM. Working as an integrated part of the marketing and communications team the role will involve planning and delivery of media stakeholder awareness initiatives such as events, site visits, conferences etc;

We would expect a qualified and experienced candidate to have the following skills and knowledge: 

  • A proven track record in media relations, including thorough knowledge of the needs of a business AECOM’s size and reach;
  • A proven track record of rapid responses to media enquiries across complex issues in either a large scale business, political or third sector environment;
  • Excellent writing and communication skills;
  • Experience of using social media;
  • Personal gravitas and confidence – able to earn the respect of internal and external interfaces;
  • The ability to digest and brief complex information often under stringent time constraints
  • Ability to provide fresh communications thinking;
