The key purpose of this role is to assist the Communications Manager in delivering high quality internal and external communications that engage and inform our key target audiences.

As a Communications Officer, you will work to ensure all communication materials, activities, key messages and events are accessible and promote and protect Metroline's identity, reputation and values.

You will be responsible for writing copy for multiple channels and responding to media requests. You will need to proactively seek out positive news across the business and work with staff at all levels to create opportunities to celebrate the achievements and success of the business and help support staff engagement.

The Communications Officer will support the production of engaging corporate materials through providing copy and design assistance. This will include producing high quality content for channels such as Metroline’s newsletters, awareness campaigns, website, social media platforms and plasma screens. You will also need to support the Communications function with general administrative support.

You will work effectively with and brief professional colleagues and contractors, including design, print, web developers, photographers, videographers etc.

The ideal candidate will be educated to degree level or equivalent/relevant professional qualification, have excellent communication skills and experience in PR or marketing communications. You will need an eye for detail, strong copywriting and proofing skills and the ability to translate complex information into accessible and engaging communications. 

Main Responsibilities

  • To liaise with the Communications Manager and garages across the business to research and develop information and copy that can be used in Metroline’s various communication channels (MetLife magazine, the Pits, local garage newsletters, plasma screens, website and social media content);
  • Research and prepare copy for publication, including supporting photography and design where appropriate;
  • Create and input of content onto plasma screens and corporate website;
  • Liaise with garages to maintain up-to-date content and ensure a level of personalisation to their garage whilst ensuring consistent corporate branding and key messages;
  • Maintain and administer databases, including comms, collateral, report submissions, awards nominations, press contacts;
  • Co-ordinate the distribution of press releases;
  • To assist in the coordination and administration of events including launches, long service awards, road shows, forums and CSR building activities;
  • To liaise and build relations with TfL Press Office and relevant media, and monitor relevant media platforms for Metroline coverage;
  • To provide administrative support to the Communications function.

  • Essential Criteria for application

  • Demonstrable experience in marketing, communications or PR role;
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent;
  • Demonstrable experience working in a team environment and on own initiative;
  • Excellent attention to detail;
  • Demonstrable experience in design and social media (desirable).

  • Must be able to demonstrate credibility to build professional relationships with both employees and managers;
  • Discreet when managing confidential matters;

Copywriting and editing skills are desirable.
