We have an exciting opportunity for an External Communications Manager to be based in Portsmouth Naval Base; the home of the Royal Navy and headquarters of BAE Systems’ Maritime Services business.

2019 is shaping up to be a defining year for our business and this role will be at the centre of the action.

In this role, you will be responsible for developing and leading communications campaigns which support our business objectives, as well as providing a robust media relations and crisis communications service. You will also be responsible for our community investment programme and will provide significant stakeholder engagement support to our business.

Working closely with colleagues across BAE Systems, including the Maritime Services employee communications team, Maritime and Group communications teams, you will play a leading role in promoting our capabilities and successes, and supporting key business winning campaigns. You will ensure a proactive, planned, consistent and co-ordinated approach is adopted for all communications activities.

 

Your main responsibilities will involve:

Leading the planning and delivery of effective communications campaigns and activities which support business priorities

Leading the management and development of effective communications channels, seeking opportunities for improvement

Leading stakeholder management within the specific requirements of the role and support stakeholder management within the wider business

Leading reputation management within the specific requirements of the role (including media relations as appropriate) and support reputation management within the wider business

Leading the community investment programme (with budgetary responsibilities)

Playing a significant role in working effectively across communication teams within Maritime Services, Maritime and Group

Leading a team of communications professionals, developing individual and team, and driving good performance

Supporting the delivery of effective business continuity and crisis management across the business.

 

Your skills and qualifications:

  • Extensive experience in a previous External Communications Manager position
  • Strong social media knowledge and experience
  • Experience in high profile media relations (news and trade media)
  • Stakeholder management and engagement experience at strategic level
  • Internal communication experience would be deemed advantageous

Location: Portsmouth Naval base

Salary: Competitive (dependent on skills and experience)
