The Role

Do you have extensive experience in communications, including the ability to creatively design communications strategies for complex and nuanced subjects and provide advice to senior leaders?

A major programme of restoration and renewal (R&R Programme) work needs to be carried out to preserve the legacy of the Palace of Westminster and ensure it can continue to serve as home to the UK Parliament during and beyond the 21st century. To do this, we're establishing a two-tier governance model consisting of a Sponsor Body and Delivery Authority. The Sponsor Body will act as the single client accountable to Parliament and own the budget, business case and scope of the programme and oversee the work of the Delivery Authority, which in turn will be tasked with delivering the Sponsor Body’s requirements to budget and timescale. This is your chance to be part of what promises to be an exciting time in the biggest restoration and renewal programme in the history of the UK.

Among the accountabilities of the Sponsor Body are managing the Programme’s interface with Parliament and keeping external stakeholders onside, including neighbours of the Parliamentary Estate, statutory authorities and interest groups. The need for strategic communications – to both internal and external stakeholders – is integral to the programme

This is a senior role that will operate within a high value, technical, business critical and politically complex environment. The post holder will act on behalf of the Shadow Sponsor Body and Parliament as a spokesperson for the Palace of Westminster Restoration and Renewal Programme. The post holder will build strong collaborative relationships with key stakeholders who will inform the delivery of the internal communications and external relations strategy. This will require the post holder to work across multiple organisations to promote and facilitate positive interest and commitment to the Programme

The Person

The successful candidate will have the following skills/experience:

• Excellent communication and presentation skills, including the ability to write copy for websites and marketing and to represent the Sponsor Body as a media spokesperson

• Ability to think strategically, anticipating and managing high-level risks and uncertainties and acting with sensitivity to the political context of the programme. Considers the wider impacts of their activities and decisions on the Sponsor Body, the Programme and the UK Parliament

• A relevant professional qualification is desirable for this role (e.g. communications, journalism, marketing, external relations, programme management, etc.) or significant experience in a strategic communications and relationship management role for a large and complex programme.
