Closing date

The Office of Communications plays a central role in the work of the Open Society Foundations by coordinating and strengthening the public presence of the global network and by helping to advance relevant issues.

Communications works to raise the Foundations’ public profile by promoting the network’s many noteworthy achievements as well as responding to attacks from opponents of open society around the world. The department employs media outreach, publications, and the web to assist dozens of Open Society foundations and programs in their communications efforts.

Reporting to the Head of Strategic Insight, you’ll be responsible for a wide range of work including narrative and media monitoring, assisting in basic research projects, providing inputs for political analysis, preparing media lists, drafting press releases, and assisting in various event preparations and dissemination efforts. You will also provide administrative support to the Office of Communications and work closely and collaboratively with other members of the Communications team.

As our ideal candidate, you’ll be interested in social justice issues, as well as having an awareness of the political environment in Europe, with particular interest in the Brussels political scene and EU policymaking mechanisms.

We’re looking for someone with experience in communications and/or research and analysis, with fluent English, and ideally at least one additional language – although this is not essential. As you’ll be working on a wide range of tasks and projects simultaneously, you will need to be able to prioritise your workload, especially when under pressure.

The impact made by the Open Society Foundations begins with our workforce. Our diverse and inclusive staff is passionate about cultivating a more democratic, equitable world. For 35 years, we’ve sought applicants who will join us in our pursuit of open society. Our staff members are vital to the Open Society mission and our benefits program is designed to reflect how much we value them.

If you’d like to apply, please click apply to be taken to our website where you will be asked to upload a cover letter, CV, and short writing sample (ideally as one document). Incomplete applications will not be considered.

Closing date: 2 March 2019.

We are strengthened by the diversity of our colleagues across the Open Society Foundations. We welcome applications from people of all cultures, backgrounds, and experiences, and are committed to providing reasonable adjustments so that colleagues with disabilities are able to fulfill the essential functions of the job.
