Closing date

This is an exciting opportunity to use your extensive PR, journalism or media relations expertise to play a pivotal role raising the profile and delivering the media relations strategy of the Girls’ Day School Trust (GDST).

The GDST is the UK's leading family of independent girls schools, including Wimbledon High School, Putney High School, South Hampstead High School, Oxford High School, Newcastle High School for Girls, and many more. You will be based at our head office near Victoria, part of an energetic team working across communications, marketing, alumnae relations and development. You will work with all 25 of our schools and academies to bring the GDST vision and strategy to life.

You will also work on profile opportunities for the Chief Executive and key school Heads; this will involve building and maintaining relationships with media contacts and journalists to maximise PR opportunities.

You will be committed to supporting girls and young women in this rapidly changing world, and be enthused about planning, pitching and placing stories in the national media. You will need the drive and enthusiasm to generate positive media coverage and keep media contacts up-to-date on GDST and schools’ news and achievements. Proven experience in crisis communications management is essential along with the gravitas to manage colleagues and influence senior stakeholders. Social media nous is highly desirable too.

If you have a track record of achievement in delivering media strategies and a real hunger for generating media coverage, we would be delighted to hear from you. If you are an exceptional candidate, there is the possibility of upgrading the role to Head of Media Relations.

In return, you’ll get an excellent package of rewards and benefits:

  • Competitive salaries and pay progression
  • 30 days’ annual leave
  • Access to extensive professional development opportunities
  • Training grants for qualifications
  • Generous pension schemes
  • Free life assurance benefit
  • A discount of up to 50% on fees for children at GDST schools
  • Interest free loans for training, computer purchase loans and travel season ticket loans
  • A Cycle to Work scheme
  • Competitive terms and conditions of employment
