Kent Police is seeking new press officers. This exciting opportunity has arisen to cover forthcoming maternity leave and the resignation of a press officer to pursue other ventures.

The successful applicants for the full time and part-time fixed term positions will be working with a busy and friendly team.

This rewarding role is all about developing strong working relationships with local, regional and national journalists, managing media enquiries and promoting the work of Kent Police officers across traditional and digital media.

You will also need to be able to gain the confidence and trust of police officers at all levels, be a good team-worker and identify opportunities to help the force prevent and detect crime and disorder.

Excellent written, verbal, information gathering and analytical skills are essential as is the ability to juggle the competing demands of high profile incidents and issues. An understanding of policing will be welcome although it is not essential.

To thrive in this creative, exciting and demanding role, it is essential that you are able to demonstrate the ability to make consistently strong decisions, high levels of resilience, integrity and professionalism. You will need to have worked in an operational press office environment or have a qualification in journalism or public relations.

You will be working closely with the Head of Press Office, News Desk Manager and other press officers as well as the digital engagement and social media team, and the wider Corporate Communications department.
