As we go through one of the biggest transformations in our history, the need to provide brilliant consistent communications support across our units has never been more important.

That’s where you come in. You’ll work into the head of internal communications for HR, Legal, Regulatory and Corporate Affairs to support four of our ExCo members (Group HR Director, Group Corporate Affairs Director, Group General Counsel and Group Director Regulatory Affairs) communicate to their teams brilliantly and effectively, in line with our internal comms strategy.  This isn’t about business partnering senior leaders to deliver their personal priorities, but helping them and their teams understand the bigger picture, driving pride and advocacy in our company.  

You’ll work hand-in-hand with your head of to deliver the annual internal comms plan for the units you support, making sure that whatever you do ties back to the broader BT picture and the IC strategy. You’ll find ways to promote BT-wide communications across the units, while proactively creating bespoke content for them when necessary, and sharing back across BT, whenever relevant.

You’ll have a knack for building strong and respectful relationships with senior leaders, knowing how and when to challenge to get the best results for internal communications. And you’ll be a dab hand at sharing best practice and finding new ways of doing things to make the stuff we do better and better.

Last but not least, you’ll be passionate about employee engagement, constantly looking for new ways to improve the quality of communications your audiences receive.

Your accountabilities

  • support HR, Legal, Regulatory and Corporate Affairs to gain support and buy-in for the IC strategy
  • input all plans/priorities for HR, Legal, Regulatory and Corporate Affairs into the annual IC strategy and plan
  • delivers the annual IC plan for HR, Legal, Regulatory and Corporate Affairs
  • manage the sharing of all BT-wide communications with all teams and regions in HR, Legal, Regulatory and Corporate Affairs.
  • create and manage all bespoke IC content for the HR, Legal, Regulatory and Corporate Affairs units, working to maximise effectiveness and audience reach and ensure communications are measurable and timely
  • support the delivery of strategic projects and initiatives aligned to HR, Legal, Regulatory and Corporate Affairs strategy and wider IC strategy
  • ensure fantastic content and messaging from HR, Legal, Regulatory and Corporate Affairs is shared across wider BT, working closely with the central teams
  • support the head of internal communications on strategic communications best practice, industry trends and BT-wide channel strategies
  • research, propose and deliver channel and campaign innovations aligned to the broader internal communication strategy and analysis of audience need
  • apply knowledge and understanding of Finance and S&T to help shape IC strategy, policy and planning

Skills required for the job

  • Strategy development and delivery
  • Confidence to work with and advise leaders in line with internal comms priorities and principles
  • Excellent stakeholder management, at all levels
  • Demonstrable understanding of BT and passion for the brand
  • Ability to communicate complicated, multi-faceted plans to wide range of audiences in a simple and engaging way
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills – particularly for presentations and creation of plans and strategy
  • Creative thinker – able to think outside the box, find creative solutions to issues and always looking for new and fresh ideas to improve internal comms activities and drive advocacy
